2025 Statewide Victories
In the 2025 Maryland legislative session, we were more engaged and had a stronger presence in Annapolis than ever before, and it was the first year that ACT, AIM, and PATH officially came together as the Maryland Just Power Alliance!
Attainable Housing Act
In October 2024, after ACT’s many months of organizing, the Anne Arundel County Council voted to pass the Attainable Housing Act!
Organizing with Descendant Communities
In 2024, ACT organized with residents of the Shot Town Road and Mulberry Hill historic African American communities to make their intentions for their land honored in the County’s Comprehensive Zoning process.
2024 Statewide Victories
We achieved 3 major victories in the Maryland state legislature in 2024!
Turnaround Thursday
In 2023, ACT helped establish the Turnaround Thursday Movement, a second chance jobs movement which helps people who are underemployed, unemployed, or recently released from incarceration to secure and maintain well-paying jobs.
Housing Improvements at Woodside Gardens
Between 2019 and 2021, ACT supported residents of Woodside Gardens, a publicly subsidized housing complex in Annapolis, to organize and seek accountability from their landlords for unhealthy and unsafe living conditions.
School Bus Routes and Laptops
In 2020, ACT organized with allies to protect funding to create new school bus routes for low-income and Black students.
Feed Anne Arundel
In 2020, ACT formed Feed Anne Arundel in partnership with local restaurants.
Fair Housing Legislation
Because of ACT’s organizing with community partners, Anne Arundel County passed Fair Housing legislation in 2019.
Gun Violence Prevention
Because of ACT’s organizing, in 2019 the Anne Arundel County Executive, Annapolis Mayor, and Anne Arundel County police chief committed to being leaders in the “Do Not Stand Idly By” national movement to reduce gun violence.
Safe Drinking Water in Schools
Because of ACT’s organizing, Anne Arundel County Schools shortened their timeline to test for and remediate the presence of lead in school drinking water from three years to one year.
