Attainable Housing Act

ACT’s “Housing for All” action in April 2024

In October 2024, after ACT’s many months of organizing, the Anne Arundel County Council voted to pass the Attainable Housing Act!

This law is a huge win for making housing more affordable for our families, seniors, essential workers, and young people, and building a community where we can all thrive.

The policy requires new housing developments to set aside 10 to 15% of units for people with moderate incomes. It also expands the types of housing that can be built in different regions of the county, including duplexes and townhomes, to provide more reasonably priced housing options.

ACT played a key role in passing this legislation. Our 200-person “Housing for All” action in April 2024 and countless meetings and emails kept up the pressure on the County Council to introduce and pass the bill.

As Ryan McDonald, the proud owner of a Moderately Priced Dwelling Unit (MPDU) in Annapolis, shared at the action: “This policy is an opportunity to acknowledge the inequities that exist in our housing system and begin to right some of these wrongs.”
